Salsa

Originating from the Cuban Son of the 1930s, Salsa music was a mix of the different types of musical influences around Cuba. The dance is continuously evolving from it’s original roots of Afro-Cuban Rumba and Son with new styles taking the name of the geographical region that develops them.

Notable styles of Salsa are New York Style, which is based on the original Mambo dance where the heavy Jazz style musical influences can be heard in the music. Other popular styles are Cuban, LA, Miami and Colombian Salsa. Each style has it’s own characteristics although they all retain the Salsa style.

A very rhythmic and popular style of dance, the Salsa forms one of the core dance styles of the Zumba.
